About the Artist
Karen lives in Rockwood. She's from an old family in the area, and her love of Rockwood shows in her photography. She's been called a painterly photographer, because of her artist background. Here photos have been chosen for the Canon USA Calendar, NBC Today Show, and Life illustrated.
I and six generations of my family have made Rockwood - Moosehead our home. I have always loved art from an early age, but it was only a few years ago that I starting doing photography. and I now have the pleasure of capturing the beautiful scenic areas, sunrises, sunsets and the abundance of nature that surrounds us.
I do it because of the beauty that surrounds me. I feel gifted, I feel guided. I always wanted to be an artist. When I was six years old, I wanted to go into art school. I had a love of arts, but as things would have it, I couldn't go to school, and I never did go to art school. Then a few years back I thought, "I like to take pictures. Maybe I could get a little camera." That was just a few years ago. Then when I did, it brought back the love I have for art.
When I was younger, I thought I'd was into taking pictures of people, because I love faces. Then over the years I went into nature and I absolutely love the nature now, landscapes, and animals. I love everything.
What's the Rest of the Story?
Last summer I loved spending time with some beavers. Because they are mostly nocturnal, I would be out by 4 a.m. to hopefully get a glimpse of one of the four members of this beaver family. Many times I had seen the kids and adults show affection by touching their faces together.
